Ten months have now passed and I have yet to write that second post until now. So, I’m obviously not very good at this yet. Nevertheless, a lot has happened in these past ten months including earning my MFA degree from the Academy of Art in San Francisco, moving (just down the street, but still moving), and working full-time as a freelance web designer and developer. I could’ve written about several of these big life changes, but, you know, just never found the time.

After becoming more involved in the social web through networks such as Twitter, I’ve found that I’m more apt to post small bits of information rather than entire blog posts. Therefore, as I build the website for the brand I’m doing freelance under entitled, Mighty Dream, I’m implementing more of a tumblelog approach; that is, a collection of mixed-media postings (links, photos, notes, etc.) and other web activity aggregated into one chronological lifestream, if you will. It should be finished soon, but, hey, you saw how the blogging thing went.

Finally, after wanting to do this for about two years, I’ve launched a new website for myself. Wow, two years? I actually tried several times. I’d come up with a design only to scrap it and wait until the next break between semesters. Nevertheless, it was all a learning experience and I’m finally here with an outlet to display my work. Though I’m not much of a writer, I also wanted to be able to jump into the wide world of blogging when I feel the urge—you’re reading my first excursion.

On to the details (beware, this could get tech-y). Part of the delay came from my indecision on which publishing platform to choose. I wanted the ability to easily manage not only the content on my weblog, but also my work. I looked at a number of CMSs including WordPress, Movable Type, TextPattern, ExpressionEngine, Drupal and Joomla. Although this type of functionality is slightly beyond its scope, I settled on WordPress because of some prior experience with it and the huge community it has created. With the help of some plug-ins and custom written functions, I’ve managed to make it behave the way I want it to.

A few fun things to point out: (1) the bookmarks in the sidebar and (2) the photos in the footer. The bookmarks are just that, the three most recent websites I’ve bookmarked along with a short description. With the help of the handy del.icio.us extension Ma.gnolia Mini Ma.rker and some fancy coding, as soon I bookmark a page in my browser it appears here. The photos are the three most recent additions to my Flickr profile. Since taking a digital photography course, I’ve become more interested in photography and continue to hone my skills with a point-and-shoot. Maybe one of these days I’ll splurge on an SLR.

Stay tuned as I will be adding more work (mostly from school) and perhaps an entry or two in the coming weeks. In the meantime, take a look around and drop me a comment below—I’m eager to hear what you think.
